The gesture of making lines with Qalam

Qalam

A qalam (Arabic: قلم) is a type of reed pen. It is made from a cut, dried reed, and used for Islamic calligraphy. The pen is seen as an important symbol of wisdom in Islam, and references the emphasis on knowledge and education within the Islamic tradition.

The stems of hollow reeds are cut at specific angles depending on intended script so that they can be used for calligraphy, and the type of reed used varies depending on the specific calligrapher’s preferences.

Title- Ghost crab’s homes

Ghost crabs dig deep burrows near the intertidal zone of open sandy beaches. The burrows are usually composed of a long shaft with a chamber at the end, occasionally with a second entrance shaft.

We were travelling in Thailand and the beach was empty of human presence but had a large presence of Ghost Carbs. I find their home making techniques quite intreating and a very dedicated creature.

Inspired by Alocasia odora , giant upright elephant ear, Asian taro or night-scented lily, (scientific name: Alocasia odora) is native to India, the Philippines and Taiwan, and is an evergreen perennial plant belonging to the genus Alocasia. It has a thick tree-like rhizome underground, and its leaves are similar to giant taro.

I saw so many of this plant when I visited Thailand and I fell in love with the way light passes through it and highlighted the complex network.
